Full Fathom Five: Call of Cthulhu

A scenario by Paul Fricker. Taking inspiration from Moby Dick, Full Fathom Five puts the players aboard a whaling vessel in 1847. As the ship sails across the Pacific Ocean strange and terrible events unfold.

You’ve been at sea for 13 months. There’s salt in your beard, and weevils in your biscuits!

The scenario is intended for four to six players, with advice included for running with fewer (all the way down to one Keeper and one player). The game usually runs in a single intense session of play.

Full Fathom Five is designed for use with the 7th Edition Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game, and includes:

  • Period character sheets designed specifically for this scenario;
  • Pre-generated characters for your players;
  • Black and white portraits for each of the 23 crew members;
  • Deck plans (2);
  • Crew rosters (one for the Keeper and one for the players);
  • Player handouts;
  • Advice on how to run and present the scenario;
  • A black & white version;
  • A separate file of handouts ready for you to print out at home.

Paul Fricker is co-author of the 7th edition Call of Cthulhu Keeper Rulebook and Investigator Handbook, and has worked on many other Call of Cthulhu books including Cults of Cthulhu, Two-Headed Serpent and Masks of Nyarlathotep. Paul's other scenarios include My Little Sister Wants You to Suffer and Dockside Dogs.

"Fantastic game thoroughly enjoyed the proceedings. I felt that there was a real sense of inevitability about events but no loss of agency." - Lee Carnell, creator of http://dholeshouse.org

"Playing in this scenario was, no exaggeration, among the best Call of Cthulhu games I ever got to play in." - Keeper Chad of the Miskatonic University Podcast

NB Customers who have only purchased the POD version of this publication can email the author for a copy of the handouts (paul@blasphemoustomes.com).

Does the PDF come with a printer friendly version (that is, a white background version).

Has it come to anyone's attention yet that the picture of Obed Reed is that of Vladimir Illyitsch Uljanow ("Lenin") disguised as a train-driver when he had to flee Petrograd to Finland in 1917? :-)

For Lenin to be on whaling vessel in 1847 is just further proof that he was, in fact, a mushroom.

Hi, I bought the Softcover, but not the PDF. It fantastic and I'd really like to run it on Roll20, is there somewhere to get the file of handouts? Or is that exclusive to those who bought the PDF? Thanks, Andrew

Hi Andrew, thanks for your comment, in response I've added a line to the end of the product desription as follows: “NB Customers who have only purchased the POD version of this publication can email the author for a copy of the handouts (paul@blasphemoustomes.com).” This won't include the wonderful artwork though.

Thanks Paul, That's awesome ... it will save me having to type PC biographies into the Roll20 character sheets. All the best, Andy

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
